Phintias ( ancient Greek Φιντίας ) was a Greek potter and vase painter who, along with Euphronios and Euthymides, was one of the most important representatives of the so-called pioneer group of red-figure vase painting. From the time between 525 and 510 BC Chr. Are get ten different works with his signature, seven of which painting and three pottery are.

The beginnings of Phintias are still in the "pre-pioneering time", which is why his painting style seems a bit more ancient than that of the other representatives of the pioneer group. Influences of the early representatives of red-figure painting such as Psiax and Oltos are unmistakable. Some black-figure painting techniques, such as scratching the contours or ornamental strips in the black-figure style, were still used during the pioneering days. His drawings are described as clear, straightforward, meticulous and precise, but also bold, low-tension and somewhat stiff.

The Phintias repertoire, on the other hand, is extensive. He draws scenes from everyday life such as symposia of the hetaerae and music lessons as well as mythological scenes. The repertoire of the vase shapes he painted is also extensive. He painted amphorae , hydrium , kylike and pelike , among other things . Like the other important representatives of the pioneer group, he wrote many times on his vases. He also depicted some of his colleagues such as Euphronios and the Sosias painter on his works.

Phintias signs vases several times, but these signatures are often incorrect, for example letters are missing. That is why research has speculated that he was not properly literate.
