The Dikaios Painter was a Greek vase painter who worked in the late 6th century BC. Chr. In Athens worked.

The Dikaios painter was a representative of the " pioneering group " of red-figure vase painting , but in terms of his fame and importance he is behind the main representatives Euphronios , Euthymides , Smikros and Phintias . He also painted his vases in the new style, but works in black-figure vase painting are also by his handknown, in which he probably originally learned his trade. The Dikaios painter is thus one of a comparatively few vase painters whose works in both main styles are known. In his red-figure style of drawing he is reminiscent of Euthymides, but his works also have an inner unrest stemming from his origin in the black-figure style, which also characterizes the works of Psiax , who works in both styles . Some individual figures in the red-figure style are so reminiscent of those of Euthymides that they look like copies, which seems quite possible within the group of pioneers. Martin Robertson describes the relationship of dependency between the two as that of an imitator to the role model and compares it with the relationship between Smikros and Euphronios. In his works, the Dikaios painter often combines red-figure pictures with ornaments made in the black-figure style . In terms of composition, his works are often reminiscent of unimaginative images, such as existed at the same time in the black-figure style. On the other hand, he shows his mastery mainly in pictures with feasting , comos and love scenes, especially on a Kalpis in the Museum of Art and History in Brussels and a Psykter in the British Museum . The number of works ascribed to him is not very large.
