Gales painter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gales Painter was a Greek vase painter who worked in the last third of the 6th century BC. Chr. In Athens worked.

The Gales painter is a representative of the " pioneer group " of red-figure vase painting . Since only very few vases are assigned to him, he has not achieved the significance of other representatives of the group such as Euphronios , Euthymides or Phintias . John D. Beazley recognized the individual style of the artisan among the tens of thousands of preserved vases and shards of the red-figure Attic style and summarized his works. It got its emergency name after the potter Gales , whose two signed vases, two lekyths , he painted. In addition, Beazley attributes another vase to him, or it is very close to his work. The Beazley Archive currently has four vases under its possible authorship. Possibly the Gales painter is identical to the potter Gales.
