Parents with obstacles is a German television film from 2020 by Anna-Katharina Maier with Nicolette Krebitz and Hary Prinz in the leading roles. The first broadcast of the comedy film in the First took place on June 3, 2020. It is the continuation of Family with Obstacles (2017) and Wedding Ceremony with Obstacles (2018).

action

Katrin Wiedemann is about to give birth to her third child and is about to become the school director. She has no doubt that she will be able to combine child and career, especially because her husband Philipp has promised her that he will take over all of her parental leave. However, Dr. Schulze Stadler, the incumbent director who is looking for a suitable successor, disagrees with Katrin's opinion and therefore asks Philipp to temporarily take over the post of director after the birth of little Isalie, known as "Isi". Philipp thinks he is doing Katrin a favor and therefore accepts.

This leads to a marriage crisis, as a result of which the arguing parents accidentally put their baby in the local baby hatch. Philipp and Katrin are also under observation by Ms. Hödl from the youth welfare office. In addition, Katrin's egocentric father Horst and her bossy ex-mother-in-law Diana are surprisingly at the door to greet Baby Isalie. The chaos is perfect after Katrin's affair Marcel suddenly shows up and suspects that he is Isi's father. Finally, Beate Lechner appears, who is looking for her ex Horst.

The situation is tense until Philipp and Katrin think about what is most important to them. Horst, who temporarily lived with Katrin, moves out and moves in with Diana. With the support of her two older children Saskia and Leo, Katrin manages to convince the school administration and director Schulze Stadler that they can combine family and career very well.

reception

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv described the film as an “everyday, connectable, feel-good comedy without the naivety of the ARD Friday films that everything will be fine”. The film is great fun, the characters are personable and contemporary. In addition to morality, there is always a good portion of irony in the wonderfully relaxed game.

In the Weser Kurier , Eric Leimann found that the third part would also be convincing and judged: “A slightly over-the-top joke that still conveys a lot of reality.” There is a lot of truth in the individual scenes as well as in the entire story. Topics such as the gender struggle for emancipation and the overwhelming demands of a mother who does not want to forego her career at the same time would be worked out in a wonderfully casual and purring manner. Leimann also praised the strong ensemble, from which Krebitz once again stands out with her authentic playing.

Tilmann P. Gangloff called the comedy worth seeing. The story could easily be told as a drama, but it was consistently packaged as a comedy without revealing the seriousness of the matter. Again and again, the script and direction sharpened the situation comedy without ever letting the film become clutter. The conclusiveness is not least a question of the excellent performance of the actors, even if Krapoth designed some secondary characters close to the cliché. Taken individually, some appearances are absurd, but the overall picture of the roles is consistent.

Heike Hupertz wrote in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that this film is not quite as bizarre as the two previous films, in addition to the situation comedy, nicely packaged on the topic of reconciling family and work. In this film, Sophia Krapoth, Doro Götz and Anna-Katharina Maier are keen not to let their warm-hearted, smart main character, who Krebitz embodies with a lot of natural charm and power, appear as a career beast without empathy. The final plea, which has a lot to offer in terms of content, was overly long. Until the dissolution in heartwarming pleasure, parents with obstacles are still a worth seeing, modern multi-generation film.

In Erste , 3.97 million people saw the film when it was first broadcast, and its market share was 13.5 percent.
