Einsatzkapelle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An insert chapel is a small sacred space which , in contrast to free-standing chapels or chapels attached to the nave , is integrated or inserted into the overall building . The emergency chapels, which are mostly arranged in rows at the side , are therefore located in Hallenkirchen together with the main nave and aisle (or aisles) under a single roof. In a basilica , the insert chapels use the extended roof of the aisle (or aisles). For this reason, insert chapels can hardly be recognized as such from the outside, as they merge with the nave to form a closed unit.

Such special chapels are independent of architectural styles and occur, for example, in the Gothic as well as in the Baroque .
