Eiríkur Bergmann 2014

Eiríkur Bergmann Einarsson (born February 6, 1969 ) is an Icelandic political scientist and novelist.

Life and academic career

Eiríkur Bergmann graduated from the University of Copenhagen with a master's degree in political science in 1998 with a thesis entitled “Liberal reform in Russia”. In 2009 he was awarded a Ph. D. from the University of Iceland .

He has been Head of the Center for European Studies since 2005 and Professor of Political Science at the Icelandic University of Bifröst since 2012 . As part of the COST network, Eiríkur Bergmann is a member of various projects, such as the COMPACT - Comparative Analysis of Conspiracy Theories , where he explores the links to right-wing populism in the field of conspiracy theories and in particular the use of conspiracy theories to achieve political goals, explored. His main research interests are international relations, history, economic and financial policy. One of his focuses is participatory democracy .

Eiríkur Bergmann publishes mainly on the topics of European integration, nationalism and Icelandic politics. He is a commentator on Icelandic domestic and foreign policy and economy in various media such as the Guardian .

Eiríkur Bergmann was appointed in 2011 by the Icelandic parliament, the Althing , as a member of the committee for the drafting of a new constitution. This body drew up a draft constitution with the direct participation of the population. Eiríkur Bergmann also served as an OSCE observer of the 2012 Russian presidential election in Kazan . He has been a member of the International Political Science Association since 2009 .
