Eisbär is a song by the Swiss band Grauzone , which was first released on the compilation album Swiss Wave - The Album (1980) and then, in a 30 seconds shorter version, as a single (1981). The song is attributed to the Neue Deutsche Welle . Music and lyrics come from Martin Eicher , the singer and guitarist of the formation. The song was produced by Urs Steiger and Grauzone. In Germany, the song reached number 12 in the single charts.
Grauzone recorded an English version of Polar Bear in 1982 , which was first released in 2010 on the double CD Grauzone 1980–1982 Remastered ( mital-U ).
Cover versions
Grauzone's most successful song, Eisbär, was covered by various bands. In 1997 GrooveZone covered him as a dance version. In 2001 the song was covered by the Austrian Neue-Deutsche- Härteband Stahlhammer ; In 2006 she released a version of the song on the album Eisenherz. In 2003 Knorkator feat. Holger Klein re-wrote the song. In 2006 the French band Nouvelle Vague released their version of the song on their album Bande à part . Scholle (without sister C.) accommodated a dance version on the NDD - New German Dancefloor Level 3 sampler . Oomph! had their version on the limited edition Truth or Dare . The Dresden Dolls have also repeatedly covered this song live. In 2013 the Frenchman Rodolphe Burger covered the song. In 2017 the band Eisbrecher released a cover, which was also released as a single. Prada Meinhoff released a cover on their first album in 2018.
