Eisenach Deputy Convent
The Eisenach Deputy Convent (EDC) was a corporation of fraternities . It existed from 1874 to 1881 and is regarded as the forerunner of today's German Burschenschaft , which was founded as the General Deputy Convent (ADC) after the EDC was dissolved in 1881 . The ADC adopted the EDC's rules of procedure when it was founded.
history
The Green-White-Red Cartel invited to a meeting in Eisenach on November 10, 1874 on the initiative of the Germania Jena fraternity . As a result, representatives of 20 fraternities signed the statutes of the EDC on November 17th. The association demanded unconditional satisfaction and refused to accept fraternities at technical universities . With up to 34 member associations, it only represented a minority of the fraternities - including the South German Cartel and the Red Cartel did not participate - and only lasted a few years due to internal disputes.
Through the practice of the EDC to discredit fraternities not belonging to it, the EDC had a divisive rather than unifying effect on the fraternities movement and also promoted the conversion of some fraternities into corps .
