The Anklam Railway Bridge is a railway bridge over the Peene near Anklam in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on the Angermünde – Stralsund railway line . The movable bridge , which has now been replaced by a new building, was designed as a swing bridge or roller bascule bridge based on the principle of the American engineer William Donald Scherzer . It is one of the oldest surviving bridges of this type in Germany. The old bascule bridge was erected as a technical monument next to the new building.
history
The bridge was completed in 1938 by Friedrich Krupp AG and Friedrich Krupp AG Grusonwerk ( Magdeburg ). During the Second World War , the northern, fixed part of the bridge was badly damaged. After the war, this part was rebuilt as a welded construction.
The German railway plans to expand since 2001 railway line Angermünde-Stralsund for speeds up to 160 kilometers per hour . Since the Anklam railway bridge did not meet the safety requirements for such speeds, it was replaced by a new building. To a total loss of the listed bridge avert, the receipt on the spot was unenforceable, that was true State Office for Culture and Heritage Conservation at a compromise whereby the old bridge a few meters to the west offset was.
Construction of the new railway bridge began in March 2011. It consists of two single-track bridge troughs that can be moved independently of each other. The first bridge was completed in mid-2012, the second at the end of 2013. The construction costs amounted to around 22 million euros.
