The Lalitpur railway accident occurred near Lalitpur , Uttar Pradesh , India on April 18, 1989 . 75 people died.

Starting position

The Karnataka Express from Bangalore to Delhi was five hours late . This is why numerous travelers who normally would not have taken the train got on in Bhopal .

The train was traveling at a speed of 100 km / h shortly before a bridge when it derailed . The middle of the train fell more than 10 meters. The affected wagons were completely smashed. The train also damaged the telephone line running parallel to the railway line. The cause of the accident could not be clearly determined. Most likely there was a technical failure or a technical defect. There was no convincing evidence of a terrorist attack, for example by the Naxalites .

consequences

The railway accident killed 75 people and it is estimated that around 328 were injured.

Because of the damaged telephone line, the railway headquarters 90 kilometers away did not find out about it until two hours after the accident. Medical emergency services did not arrive on site until 3 ½ hours after the accident.
