Lalitpur ( Hindi : ललितपुर , Lalitpur ) is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

It has about 130,000 inhabitants (2011 census) and is the capital of the Lalitpur district .

location

Lalitpur is located about 95 km (driving distance) south of Jhansi at an altitude of about 430 m above sea level. d. M. in an agriculturally productive environment in which there are several reservoirs that are also used for irrigation purposes.

population

The city's population consists largely of Hindus (approx. 75%) and Muslims (approx. 20%); other religious groups ( Sikhs , Jains etc.) only play a subordinate role. As is common in India, the male part of the population exceeds the female population by around 10%. They speak Hindi and the local dialect Bundeli .

economy

The city forms the artisanal, mercantile, cultural and service center for the mainly agriculturally oriented villages in the area. With the station on one of the main routes in northern India, the city is developing rapidly.

Attractions

The city itself has hardly any sights, but it is a good starting point for excursions by bus or taxi to the early Hindu temples in the area that are well worth seeing:
