Mirshah railway accident

The Mirshah rail accident on March 3, 1997 was a rear-end collision at Mirshah Railway Station, Punjab , Pakistan . 125 people died.

Starting position

A train consisting of a locomotive and five wagons stood on a stump track in Mirshah station . The end of the track was equipped with a buffer stop.

The Zulfikar Express from Lahore to Karachi had to pass the Mirshah train station on its way.

the accident

The Zulfikar Express entering the station was directed to the dead end after a brake failure in order to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming train. There he collided with the train standing there. The stationary train was crushed and smashed between the approaching express train and the buffer stop. Two cars of the Zulfikar Express were also destroyed.

consequences

125 people died - including 24 children - and 450 people were injured, 50 of them seriously.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited injured people in the hospital in Khanewal, which is adjacent to the accident site . 81 injured people were treated there, 25 of whom were seriously injured.
