Werner Heim (martial artist)

Werner Heim (* 1925 ; † March 1, 2008 ) was a German Ju-Jutsuka . Together with Franz-Josef Gresch, he was one of the fathers of modern Ju-Jutsu and is considered one of the fathers of Budo sport in Germany.

Life

Heim began in 1937 with judo and the then integrated self-defense system Jiu-Jitsu . He served in World War II and became an American prisoner of war. He then continued his sporting activity in judo, but also trained in karate and aikido . Together with Franz-Josef Gresch and others, he developed the modern Ju-Jutsu from various combat systems in 1967 and incorporated it into the German Judo Association (DJB). In 1968 he became federal chairman of the German Dan College (DDK) in the federal group Ju-Jutsu. For his services, he was awarded the gold medal of the DJB in 1972 and the 6th Dan Ju-Jutsu in 1977 . On November 29, 1988, he received the Federal Order of Merit Medal .

Heim was a founding member of the Hessian Ju-Jutsu Association (HJJV) and became honorary president there . On the occasion of his 70th birthday in 1995, he received the Golden Badge of Honor from the German Ju-Jutsu Association . He died on March 1st, 2008 after a long illness.
