Mvoungouti railway accident (1991)
The railway accident Mvoungouti (1991) was the head-on collision of a passenger with a freight train in the night of 5 September 6, 1991 at the station of Mvoungouti in the Republic of Congo . At least 133 people died. Ten years later, another serious railway accident occurred in the same station : Mvoungouti Railway Accident (2001)

The Chemin de fer Congo-Océan (CFCO) passenger train was traveling inland from Pointe-Noire to Brazzaville . It should have been overcrowded. In the opposite direction, a freight train from the Compagnie minière de l'Ogooué (COMILOG), which had loaded wood , was driving . There was a head-on collision between the two trains at Mvoungouti station. The railway company stated brake failure as the cause, and human failure elsewhere . 133 people died. 104 bodies were recovered, 29 more people were subsequently missing and more than 50 others were injured.
