Mvoungouti railway accident (2001)
In the railway accident Mvoungouti met on 10 January 2001 in Mvoungouti in the Republic of Congo two trains of the Congo-Océan Chemin de fer (CFCO) together. At least 50 people died. The Mvoungouti railway accident had already occurred in the same station on September 6, 1991, with more than 100 deaths.
The two freight trains were traveling on the single-track line between Pointe-Noire and Brazzaville . Numerous people traveled as fare dodgers on their freight wagons . One train came from Pointe-Noire and went inland, the second came from Dolisie . Nothing was known about the cause of the accident. At least 50 people died and more than 100 were injured.
