The Rivière Portneuf is a left tributary of the Saint Lawrence River in the Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean and Côte-Nord administrative regions of the Canadian province of Québec .

The Rivière Portneuf forms the outflow of Lac Portneuf . It flows in a predominantly east-southeast direction and flows into the confluence of the Saint Lawrence River at Portneuf-sur-Mer , about 230 km east of the provincial capital Québec . Immediately before the estuary, Route 138 crosses the river. The port of Portneuf-sur-Mer is located on the eastern bank of the river at the mouth of the Rivière Portneuf.

To the west of the Rivière Portneuf is the catchment area of ​​the Rivière Saguenay , to the east the Rivière aux Outardes runs . The river length is 182 km. The catchment area of ​​the Rivière Portneuf covers 2642 km².

Hydropower plants

Since May 3, 1996, three run-of-river power plants have been in operation on the Rivière Portneuf with a total output of 25.9 MW. Construction began in October 1994.
