Ice hockey in Altenau

Ice hockey was played in Altenau (then part of the Upper Harz municipality ) from 1973 to 2007. The EC Oberharz and the SC Altenau played two years in the Regionalliga Nord . TV Jahn Wolfsburg also playedin Altenaudue to the lack of an ice rink in Wolfsburg , four seasons in the regional league and one season in the Oberliga Nord .

The game was played in the ice rink of the Aqua-Polaris sports center . The stadium had an audience capacity of 1200 and in 2007 gave way to the construction of the Kristall-Therme “Hot Brocken”.

History of men's teams

EG Oberharz

The EG Oberharz played from 1973 to 1975 in the Regionalliga Nord.

SC Altenau

The Ski Club Altenau from 1898 played in the Regionalliga Nord from 1975 to 1977 .

Jahn Wolfsburg

In 1971 the SEC Wolfsburg , which had played in Hanover , joined TV Jahn Wolfsburg and then played in Altenau - there was no ice rink in Wolfsburg at that time. The TV Jahn played in 1981/82 in the league, with the last games taking place in Braunschweig, but then went bankrupt. The newly founded TV Jahn Wolfsburg then played in the newly built Ice Palace Wolfsburg from 1984 .

EHC Osterode

The EHC Südharz was founded on December 1st, 1983 as a fan club of the EC Braunlage . From 1984 he had ice ages in Altenau. In 1985/86 he started in the Lower Saxony State League. In 1987 the name was changed to EHC Osterode. In 1991 the team was promoted to the Lower Saxony League, where they played until 1995. After a few years in the Central German Hobby League, which they won in 1997, they registered for the Lower Saxony League again in 1998, but after a dispute with the board the team left the club. In 2005 the club started again in the Lower Saxony league. After the Altenau ice rink was closed, the EHC Osterode moved to the Braunlage ice rink and played there in the association league for two years. Since then, only friendly matches have been played.

EC Altenau

The EC Altenau "The Upper Harz" started in 1999 in the Lower Saxony League. After one season, the EC Altenau / EHC Osterode syndicate was formed. In 2002 the members of the EC Altenau join the EHC Osterode.

Women

In May 1992 the women's team Eishexen EHC Osterode started playing in the women's league of Lower Saxony in 1992/93. In January 1994, the team resigned from the club after disciplinary measures were taken against the women's coach. The club formed a new women's team in syndicate with USC Clausthal ( Eishexen USC Clausthal / EHC Osterode ) for friendly games until the end of 1995. From January 1998, the EHC Osterode team is called Eisbären. In 1999/2000 the women's team played in the Lower Saxony league, from 2000 to 2002 as a syndicate with the Ice-Cats Kassel in the 2nd women's league north / east. In 2003/04 the polar bears played in the 2nd women's league north / east and were promoted to the 1st women's league north / east. There they were immediately promoted to the 2nd division north. In 2006/07 the unofficial syndicate with WSV Braunlage - syndicates are not possible in the 2nd league - champions, but renounces promotion. The EHC Osterode team will then be logged off.
