Eksi Ekso is an American rock band from Boston , Massachusetts , founded in 2003 under the name On Fire .

history

The band was founded in 2003 under the name On Fire. In 2006 guitarist Josh Megyessy, cellist Dana Feder, keyboardist Alexander Myniatis and drummer Mike Ushinski left the line-up. In addition to the remaining members Nate Shumaker (vocals, electric guitar) and Tom Korkidis (vocals, e-bass, keyboard, samples), new members finally joined: Sean Will (flugelhorn, trumpet, keyboard, samples), Clara Kebabian (vocals, Oboe, violin), Beth Holub (viola) and Alex Mihm (drums). In 2008 the band decided to rename it to Eksi Ekso. In the summer of the same year, the debut album I Am Your Bastard Wings was released via Magic Bullet Records . The second album Brown Shark Red Lion followed in 2011 , after which the band had meanwhile shrunk to a trio consisting of Mihm, Will and Korkidis. In early 2011, the band began work on their third album, which was supposed to be the second album in which the group was just a trio. The sound carrier was released in 2013 under the name Archfiend and was recorded in the North Carolina studio under the direction of Scott Solter . Jacob Cole is represented as the new drummer on the album.

style

According to the band's website eksiekso.com , the band was inspired by Erik Larson's book The Devil of Chicago to include serial killer HH Holmes on their album. According to Allmusic's Ned Raggett , the band plays experimental rock on Brown Shark Red Lion . The songs would not focus on riffs , but on the other instruments, such as the piano . According to Altpress.com's Mischa Pearlman , the music he described as experimental rock is still complex on the album, even though the band has halved its membership. Songs like Kills of the Flood Tide are a mixture of orchestral pop and symphonic post-rock .
