Elísio Macamo

Elísio Macamo (born December 21, 1964 in João Belo [now Xai-Xai], Portuguese East Africa [now Mozambique] as Mutsenga Mpoyombo-Nhlavi ) is a Mozambican scientist and sociologist . Since 2009 Macamo has been working as an assistant professor with tenure track for African Studies at the University of Basel . Macamo also heads the Center for African Studies at the University of Basel .

Life

Academic career

Elísio Macamo was born on December 21, 1964 in João Belo in the Portuguese colony of Mozambique. He first studied in Maputo and then completed two Masters: in 1988 a Masters in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Salford and in 1992 a Masters in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of North London (now London Metropolitan University ). Macamo then completed a PhD (until 1997) and a doctorate (until 2009) in general sociology at the University of Bayreuth . In his academic career, Macamos also held various fellowships, including at the University of Bayreuth as a post-doctoral fellow, at the Center for African Studies (CEA) at the University of Lisbon and as an AGORA fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin.

Macamo has been working as an assistant professor with tenure track at the University of Basel since October 2009. He also heads the University's Center for African Studies. Macamo researches and teaches mainly on the sociology of religion, technology, knowledge and politics. His current research projects deal with the politics of the rule of law and with comparative development studies.

Private

Macamo speaks Tsonga , Portuguese, Spanish, English, German and French. He lives in Lörrach, is married and has three children.
