el Abiar (Arabic also al-Abyā ,الأبيار, DMG al-Abyār ) is a city in the municipality of el Merdj in Libya , about 50 km east of the city of Benghazi and 42 km southwest of the city of el Merdj. In 2010 the population was roughly 32,563.

history

Before 2007, el-Abiar was the capital of the district of Hizam el-Achdar (see also List of Cities in Libya ).
