El Galpón

The Teatro El Galpón is a theater in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .

The El Galpón Theater is located on the city's main street, Avenida 18 de Julio 1618 . It was created on September 2, 1949 from the merger of the two theaters La Isla and Teatro del Pueblo. founded. Founding members include César Campodónico and Atahualpa del Cioppo . During the time of the military dictatorship, the independent theater company of the same name, El Galpón, was in exile in Mexico from 1976 to 1985. She had previously produced over 80 plays since 1946. In exile they then performed 25 predominantly Latin American pieces. The directors included the most renowned Uruguayan representatives such as Atahualpa del Cioppo , César Campodónico and Rubén Yáñez .
