El Hormiguero ( Spanish for "The anthill"), since autumn 2016 El Hormiguero 3.0 , is a Spanish television show ; the main topics are science , culture , comedy and politics . The entertainment program ran from September 24, 2006 to June 2011 on the Cuatro channel and has been broadcast on Antena 3 ever since . The program is moderated and produced by Pablo Motos , who welcomes artists , celebrities and stars as talk guests in the individual episodes . A trademark of the show are its two co-presenters, two cheeky ant hand puppets called "Trancas" and "Barrancas" ( trancas y barrancas means "oh and no noise" in Spanish). Originally, a weekly program was broadcast that lasted 120 minutes; since 2011, daily 40-minute chapters have been running from Monday to Thursday. The show was the most watched entertainment show on Spanish television in 2017.

The show won the Cadena SER's Ondas radio award in 2008 , received a Rose d'Or as the world's best entertainment program in 2009 and was nominated for the International Emmy Award in 2010 and 2011 . It won numerous other prizes, including another Rose d'Or for the El Plan B offshoot in 2012 . The concept was exported to various countries, for example under the Portuguese title O formigueiro to Portugal (from December 2009, presented by the German- Portuguese Marco Horácio , discontinued in 2013 after eight editions) and Brazil (2009-2010) and under the Spanish title to Chile (2010 on Canal 13 , discontinued after 13 chapters) and Mexico ( discontinued in 2014 as El Hormiguero MX with the ants "Pichas" and "Cachas", 2015); also to China , where the "anthill" 2011 became a permanent part of the successful weekly variety show Happy Camp , which has been broadcast by Hunan TV since 1997 .
