Eldred Tabachnik

Eldred Tabachnik (born November 5, 1943 in Cape Town ) is a British barrister and recorder of South African origin. He was President of the European Jewish Congress from 1996 to 1998 .

Life

Tabachnik studied law at the University of Cape Town (BA, LL.B.) and at University College London (LL.M.). After graduating, he was admitted to the bar in South Africa and Great Britain ( Inner Temple , London 1970). In 1982 he was appointed Queen's Counsel , in 1988 Bencher and 2000 Recorder .

From 1980 to 1994 he was Warden of the Richmond Synagogue in London. From 1994 to 2000 he was President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews . From 1996 to 1998 he was also President of the European Jewish Congress (EJC). He is currently chairman of the British Friends of Boys Town Jerusalem, a Jewish organization .
