James L. Shaver

James Lavesque Shaver (born May 17, 1902 in Vanndale , Cross County , Arkansas , †  August 1, 1985 in Wynne , Arkansas) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1947 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Arkansas.

Career

James Shaver attended Wynne High School and Hendrix College in Conway . After a subsequent law degree at Washington and Lee University in Virginia and his admission to the bar in 1923, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1925 and 1931 he was an MP in the Arkansas House of Representatives . Later he sat for two legislative terms in the State Senate .

In 1942, Shaver was elected lieutenant governor of Arkansas alongside Homer Martin Adkins . He held this office between 1943 and 1947. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1945 he served in this office under the new governor Benjamin Travis Laney . After serving as Lieutenant Governor, James Shaver returned to practice as a lawyer. He died on August 1, 1985.
