John Timothy "Tim" Griffin (born August 21, 1968 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) is an American politician . From 2011 to 2015 he represented the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives . Since January 2015 he has been Vice Governor of this state.

Career

Tim Griffin attended Hendrix College in Conway (Arkansas) until 1990 . After studying law at the Law School of Tulane University in New Orleans and being admitted to the bar in 1994, he began to work as a lawyer. To this day he is a member of the legal department of the Army Reserve . In the meantime he practiced as a private lawyer and as a member of the Republican Party he also embarked on a political career. He was on George W. Bush's campaign team in 2000 and 2004 . He was legal advisor to the Republicans in the controversial Florida vote count in the 2000 presidential election . From December 2006 to June 2007 he was appointed acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. However, it was not confirmed by the US Senate.

In the 2010 congressional election , Griffin was elected in the second constituency of Arkansas to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded the no longer-running Democrat Vic Snyder on January 3, 2011 . He became a member of the Armed Forces Committee , the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Justice Committee, as well as a total of seven sub-committees. Within the party, he was a member of the conservative Republican Study Committee .

In the 2012 congressional election , Griffin prevailed against the Democrat Herb Rule with 55:39 percent of the vote. In 2014, he waived re-election and instead ran for the office of lieutenant governor of Arkansas. He won with 57:39 percent of the vote against the Democrat John Burkhalter and thus became deputy to the new governor Asa Hutchinson .
