Catherine Dorris Norrell (born March 30, 1901 in Camden , Arkansas , † August 26, 1981 in Warren , Arkansas) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1963 she represented the sixth constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

biography

Norrell attended high school in Monticello , Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville . She then worked as a teacher in Arkansas public schools. She later headed the music department at Arkansas A&M College .

After the death of her husband William Frank Norrell , who had represented the sixth district of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives since 1939, Catherine Norrell was elected as his successor in Congress as the candidate of the Democratic Party . She exercised this mandate between April 18, 1961 and January 3, 1963. In 1962 the sixth electoral district was dissolved and Catherine Norrell declined to run again in another district.

Between 1963 and 1965 she was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Arkansas state government; 1965-1969 she headed in Honolulu on Hawaii a branch of the US Department of State ( United States Department of State Reception Center ). She then returned to Arkansas, where she settled in Monticello. Catherine Norrell died in Warren in August 1981 and was buried in Monticello.
