Tommy Franklin Robinson (born March 7, 1942 in Little Rock , Arkansas ) is an American politician . Between 1985 and 1991 he represented the second constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tommy Robinson attended Little Rock High School and graduated from the University of Little Rock . Between 1959 and 1963 he was in the US Navy . He then began a career in the police and security service. From 1963 to 1971 he worked as a police officer in Little Rock. Until 1974 he was a federal officer with the United States Marshals Service . Between 1974 and 1975 he was chief medical officer at the University of Arkansas. In the further course he was police chief in Jacksonville , security officer of the state of Arkansas and from 1980 to 1984 chief of police in Pulaski County .

Robinson was initially a member of the Democratic Party . As their candidate he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in 1984, where he succeeded Ed Bethune on January 3, 1985 . After two re-elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until January 3, 1991. On July 28, 1989, he changed his party affiliation and became a member of the Republicans .

In 1990 he no longer ran for Congress. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully within his new party for the nomination for the gubernatorial elections . In 2002 he also ran unsuccessfully for a return to Congress.
