David Dickson Terry

David Dickson Terry (born January 31, 1881 in Little Rock , Arkansas , † October 6, 1963 ) was an American politician . Between 1933 and 1943 he represented the fifth constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Terry was the son of Congressman William L. Terry . He attended public schools in his home country and then the Bethel Military Academy in Fauquier County , Virginia . This was followed by a degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and a law degree at the University of Arkansas . In 1903 he was admitted to the bar. He then began working in this profession in Little Rock. Terry also studied at the University of Chicago for a while . During the First World War he was a soldier in the US Army between June and December 1918 .

Politically, Terry was a member of the Democratic Party . From 1929 to 1933 he served on the Little Rock School Board. In 1933 he was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives. After the resignation of the MP Heartsill Ragon Terry won the due by-election for his seat in Congress , where he could remain after several re-elections between December 19, 1933 and January 3, 1943. In 1942 he renounced another candidacy for the House of Representatives. Instead, he unsuccessfully applied for the nomination as a US Senator within his party . After leaving Congress, Terry returned to work as a lawyer. Between 1945 and 1953 he was department head in the administration of the state of Arkansas, where he was responsible, among other things, for flood protection. He died in 1963 and was buried in Little Rock.
