Robert Marion Berry (born August 27, 1942 in Stuttgart , Arkansas ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . As a member of the House of Representatives , he represented the first congressional electoral district of the state of Arkansas from 1997 to 2011 .

Career

Marion Berry made his high school Accounts in DeWitt . He then attended the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock , where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1965 . He then took over his parents' farm, where he grew rice and soybeans.

From 1976 to 1980 he was a member of the Gillett City Council , where he lives with his family. Between 1986 and 1994 he was a member of the Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation Commission. From 1993 he served as special advisor to President Bill Clinton on agricultural trade and food aid; until 1996 he also served as a member of the domestic policy advisory body in the White House .

In November 1996, Berry was first in the Congress , where, after his victory against the Republicans succeed Warren Dupwe on January 3, 1997 Blanche Lincoln took. He was then re-elected six times before standing for re-election in 2010. Most recently he was a member of the Grants Committee and several sub-committees. Berry was a moderately conservative Democrat while in Congress and was a member of the Blue Dog Coalition .
