Eric Alan Rick Crawford (born January 22, 1966 in Homestead Air Force Base , Florida ) is an American Republican politician . As a member of the House of Representatives , he has represented the 1st congressional electoral district of the state of Arkansas since 2011 .

Crawford, whose father served in the US Air Force , was a bomb defuser in the Army for four years and was promoted to sergeant . After his service, he graduated in 1996 with a degree in agriculture. He then worked as a radio reporter and ran a farm news network that spanned five southern states with 39 radio stations.

In 2010 Crawford faced two rivals for the Congress seat of Democratic incumbent Marion Berry . On January 5, 2011, he was sworn in as a member of the 112th Congress . He is the first Republican to represent his district in Washington since the post-Civil War Reconstruction . Crawford is a member of the Agriculture and Transport Committees and the Republican Study Committee. After he was re-elected in the elections in 2012, 2014 and 2016, he is expected to be able to exercise his mandate until January 3, 2019. He has the option of a further candidacy.

He lives in Jonesboro with his wife and two children .
