Robert Neill (born November 12, 1838 in Desha , Independence County , Arkansas , † February 16, 1907 in Batesville , Arkansas) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1897 he represented the sixth constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Neill attended the public schools in his home country and then learned the profession of surveyor. In August 1860 he began to work in Independence County in this profession. During the Civil War he was a soldier in the army of the Confederate States , he in whose ranks it to the Captain brought. After the war, Robert Neill served as a clerk at the District Court in Independence County from 1866 to 1868. At the same time he studied law. After his admission as a lawyer in 1868, he began to work in this profession from 1872 in Batesville. Neill was also a member of the Arkansas militia until 1882, where he made it up to brigadier general .

Neill was a member of the Democratic Party and in 1868 a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in New York . At the party convention in Arkansas in the same year, he served as its vice-president. In the congressional election of 1892 Neill was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the newly created sixth district of Arkansas . After re-election in 1894, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1897 . For the elections of 1896 he was not nominated again by his party. After leaving Congress, Neill returned to work as a lawyer. Between 1899 and 1900 he was chairman of the Arkansas Railroad Committee. Robert Neill died in Batesville in February 1907 and was buried there.
