Soccer career

Ziegler initially spent his student years with the small company sports association (BSG) Lok Dresden . From there he was delegated to SG Dynamo Dresden in 1957, where he went through the other junior teams. After only eight years of school, since his father was an independent master tailor, he learned the trade of a steel construction fitter. In 1960 Ziegler was delegated to the BFC in Berlin and played there until the autumn of 1961. Kurt Kresse brought the 1.76 m tall Ziegler back to the Dresden team that had previously been promoted to the top division. In the league season 1962/63 he was used on the 6th match day, September 23, 1962. In the game Empor Rostock - Dynamo Dresden (2: 0) he was the right runner on the field. By the end of the season he played in various positions and completed a total of 15 league point games. The newcomer Dynamo could only stay in the league for a year, so that Ziegler had to play second class again in 1963/64. However, the immediate resurgence succeeded. In the league season 1964/65 Ziegler was used exclusively in attack, where he played in all positions. 1965/66 was Ziegler's most successful season as a striker, with seven league goals he was Dresden's second-best goalscorer behind Klaus Engels . In the following match day he completed 25 league games and was again the second best shooter of the Dynamos with six goals. After 18 matches, Ziegler had to relegate to the second division again after the 1967/68 season. In his third GDR league season , he completed 19 of the 30 point games and rose with his team again after a year in the league. 1969/70 Ziegler played for the first time all 26 league season games, but now in the defensive row. A year later he was again involved in all league point games, but was mainly used in midfield. It was Ziegler's most successful season, because at the end of the 1970/71 season he was East German champion and cup winner with the team. In the cup final on June 2, 1971 against FC Dynamo from Berlin, he played in the 2-1 victory as a right midfielder. As a 29-year-old, Ziegler completed his last league season in 1971/72. As a midfielder, he was used again in 13 league games. He played his last game in the league on January 29, 1972 in the encounter between BFC Dynamo and Dynamo Dresden (2-1). Then he was able to look back on 162 Bundesliga games with 29 goals in eight league seasons. He was also used in six European Cup games, a total of 529 games for Dynamo Dresden and scored 103 goals. After a successful DHFK diploma in sports teacher studies and A-Trainer license, Ziegler worked from 1973 to 1976 as a trainer for the GDR league club TSG Gröditz . Until the fall of the Berlin Wall, he worked successfully in the youth sector in the Dresden district. He then retrained to become a sports therapist and treated hyperactive children until they retired.
