William Joseph Hynes

William Joseph Hynes (born March 31, 1843 in County Clare , Ireland , † April 2, 1915 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1875 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1854, William Hynes came to the United States, where his family first settled in New York State . After moving, he attended Massachusetts public schools and apprenticed in the printing trade. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1870, he began to work in his new profession in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Politically, he joined the Liberal Republicans , a split from the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1872 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC as their candidate for the newly created fourth constituency of the state of Arkansas . Since he was not confirmed in the following elections, he could only spend one term in Congress between March 4, 1873 and March 3, 1875 . After his tenure in Congress ended, Hynes returned to practice until 1910. Then he moved to Los Angeles, where he spent the rest of his life and also died in April 1915.
