Oliver P. Snyder (born November 13, 1833 in Missouri , † November 22, 1882 in Pine Bluff , Arkansas ) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1875 he represented the second constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Oliver Snyder attended the public schools in his home country. In 1853 he came to Arkansas, where he was engaged in scientific and literary matters. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began his new job in Pine Bluff. Snyder became a member of the Republican Party . After the state of Arkansas was controlled by Union forces during the Civil War , Snyder was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives. He exercised this mandate between 1864 and 1865. In 1867 he was a delegate to the convention to revise the Arkansas constitution, and in 1868 he was a member of a commission that revised the laws of that state. Between 1868 and 1871, Snyder was also a member of the Arkansas Senate .

In 1870, Snyder was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the second district of Arkansas . There he replaced the Democrat Anthony Rogers on March 4, 1871 . After a re-election in 1872, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1875 . In 1874, he missed his party's re-nomination. After his tenure in Congress was over, Snyder returned to practice as a lawyer. In the year of his death, 1882, he became a treasurer in Jefferson County . He died in November 1882 and was buried in Pine Bluff.
