Charles C. Reid

Charles Chester Reid (born June 15, 1868 in Clarksville , Arkansas , † May 20, 1922 in Little Rock , Arkansas) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1903 he represented the fourth and from 1903 to 1911 the fifth constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After elementary school, Charles Reid studied at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville between 1883 and 1885 . This was followed by a law degree at Vanderbilt University in Nashville ( Tennessee ). After being admitted to the bar in 1887, Reid began working in his new profession in Morrilton . Between 1894 and 1898 he was a district attorney in Conway County . He resigned from this office in 1898 to return to practice as a private lawyer.

Reid was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1900 he was elected as their candidate in the fourth district of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he replaced William L. Terry on March 4, 1901 . Reid only represented his constituency in Congress for a term ending March 3, 1903 . In 1902 and in the three subsequent congressional elections, he was elected to succeed Hugh A. Dinsmore in the fifth district. This enabled him to complete five legislative periods in Congress between March 1901 and March 1911.

In the elections of 1910 Reid declined to run again. He withdrew from politics and worked as a lawyer. Reid died in 1922 in Little Rock, the capital of the state of Arkansas, and was buried there.
