William Allan Oldfield

William Allan Oldfield (born February 4, 1874 in Franklin , Izard County , Arkansas , † November 19, 1928 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1928 he represented the second constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Oldfield attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1896 the Arkansas College in Batesville . He then worked as a teacher before participating in the Spanish-American War as a soldier in the US Army . By the time he left the army in March 1899, he had made it to the rank of first lieutenant. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1900, he began working in his new profession in Batesville. Between 1902 and 1906, Oldfield was a district attorney in Independence County . As a member of the Democratic Party , he ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1906 .

In 1908 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the second district of Arkansas. There he replaced Stephen Brundidge on March 4, 1909 . In the nine following congressional elections, Oldfield was confirmed. He was also elected again in November 1928. He was unable to begin this legislative period because he died shortly after the election on November 19, 1928. During his time in Congress, he was chairman of the patent committee from 1911 to 1915. After his death, his wife Pearl was elected to succeed him.
