Stephen Brundidge

Stephen Brundidge (born January 1, 1857 in Searcy , Arkansas , † January 14, 1938 there ) was an American politician . From 1897 to 1903 he represented the sixth and between 1903 and 1909 the second constituency of the state of Arkansas in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Stephen Brundidge attended private and public schools in his home country. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1879, he began to work in his new profession, first in Newport and from 1880 in his home town of Searcy. Between 1886 and 1890 he was a district attorney for the Arkansas First Judicial District. Then he worked again as a lawyer.

Brundidge was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1890 and 1892 he was on the board of his party in Arkansas. In the 1896 congressional elections, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the sixth district of Arkansas . He represented this constituency in three legislative periods between March 4, 1897 and March 3, 1903. After that, he represented the second constituency in Congress until 1909 . This allowed him to spend a total of seven legislative terms in the House of Representatives.

In 1908, Brundidge declined to run again. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for governor of Arkansas . Then he worked as a lawyer again. In 1918, Brundidge also ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . Then he withdrew from politics. He died in Searcy, his birthplace in 1938.
