Oren Harris (born December 20, 1903 in Belton , Hempstead County , Arkansas , † February 5, 1997 ) was an American lawyer and politician . He represented the state of Arkansas as a member of the US House of Representatives .

Career

Oren Harris was born in Belton, where he also attended public school. He graduated in 1929 at Henderson State College in Arkadelphia and 1930 at the Cumberland School of Law of Cumberland University in Lebanon ( Tennessee ). He was admitted to the bar in the same year and opened a practice in El Dorado .

Between 1933 and 1936 he was the assistant district attorney in Union County . He then worked as a prosecutor in the 13th judicial district of Arkansas. He carried out this activity between 1937 and 1940. In 1936 and 1940 he was a delegate to the state party rallies of the Democrats in Arkansas; In 1944, 1952, 1956 and 1960 he took part in the Democratic National Convention .

Harris was elected a Democrat for the fourth constituency of Arkansas in the 77th and twelve subsequent conventions. His tenure ran from January 3, 1941 to February 2, 1966. He resolved to resign to serve as a judge in the federal district court for the eastern and western districts of Arkansas, effective February 3, 1966.

During his time as a MP, he chaired the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce from the 85th to the 89th Congress. He was also involved in the preparation of the Southern Manifesto , which spoke out against racial integration in public institutions.
