The Bavarian Broadcasting Act is the legal basis for Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), a public-law corporation ( Landesrundfunkanstalt ) for the Free State of Bavaria with its seat in Munich . It defines the program mandate, the program principles and the internal organization of Bayerischer Rundfunk.

The currently valid version of the law is the law on the establishment and tasks of an institution under public law "Der Bayerische Rundfunk" (Bavarian Broadcasting Act - BayRG) in the version of the announcement of October 22, 2003. A first Bavarian Broadcasting Act came into effect on It came into force on October 1, 1948 and was the basis for the creation of Bayerischer Rundfunk. It was comprehensively amended in 1993 and adapted to the needs of media policy at the time. In addition to the Broadcasting Act, there is also an interstate broadcasting agreement between all sixteen German federal states, which regulates the relationship between public and private broadcasting in the dual broadcasting system and which contains basic provisions, especially on financing.

Article 6: Broadcasting Council

The first paragraph of Article 6 describes the task of the Broadcasting Council, its rights and obligations:

(1) The Broadcasting Council represents the interests of the general public in the field of broadcasting. He ensures that the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation fulfills its tasks according to the law and exercises the necessary control rights. Its members are obliged to work for the general interests of broadcasters and broadcasters. You are not bound to orders.
