Mike Ross

Michael Avery "Mike" Ross (born September 1, 1961 in Texarkana , Arkansas ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ). As a member of the House of Representatives , he represented the fourth congressional constituency of the state of Arkansas between 2001 and 2013 . He ran unsuccessfully for governor of Arkansas in the 2014 election.

In the 2000 congressional election , Ross was the only Democrat outside of California to succeed in replacing a Republican incumbent. In 2004 the Republicans did not nominate a candidate against him. Ross was in the 112th Congress vice chairman of the Blue Dog Coalition , an alliance of financially and socially conservative members of the Democratic Party.

In 2012, he waived another Congressional candidacy and resigned on January 3, 2013 in preparation for campaigning for the governor of Arkansas, re-elected in 2014. After his party colleague Bill Halter dropped out of the running for the Democratic Party's nomination for candidacy in August 2013 in order to unite the party and increase its chances, Ross was given better prospects for election to governorship: University's Larry Sabato of Virginia then classified the decision as "Toss Up" (completely open), although decades of Democratic dominance in Arkansas has collapsed in recent years and appears to be replaced by Republican supremacy. On election day, November 4, 2014, however, he lost the election against former Congressman Asa Hutchinson ( Republican Party ) significantly. 41 percent of the electorate voted for Ross, while Hutchinson was 55 percent.
