Bill Halter

William A. "Bill" Halter (born November 30, 1960 in North Little Rock , Arkansas ) is an American politician . Between 2007 and 2011 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Arkansas.

Career

Bill Halter attended Little Rock Catholic High School and then studied at Stanford University in California . This was followed by studies at the University of Oxford in England until 1986 . After returning to the United States, he worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . He became an economic policy advisor to the United States Congress Joint Economic Committee and the US Senate Finance Committee . In 1993 he was named advisor to the Office of Management and Budget by President Bill Clinton . Between 1999 and 2001 he was deputy head of the Social Security Administration . There he promoted the use of new computer technologies and the Internet. After 2001 he first worked in the private sector.

In 2006, Halter was elected Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas alongside Mike Beebe . He held this office between 2006 and 2011. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Before his election as lieutenant governor, he was also considering running for governor in 2006. However, he withdrew this application early. In 2010 he sought the nomination for the election to the US Senate, but lost in the primary against Blanche Lincoln , who in turn was defeated by the Republican John Boozman .

In early 2013, Bill Halter declared his candidacy for the Arkansas gubernatorial election of 2014. In July of the same year, however, he withdrew his application.
