Winthrop Paul "Win" Rockefeller (born September 17, 1948 in New York City , †  July 16, 2006 in Little Rock , Arkansas ) was an American politician . Between 1996 and 2006 he was Lieutenant Governor of the state of Arkansas.

Career

Winthrop Rockefeller came from the well-known Rockefeller family , the best known member of which was Winthrop's great-grandfather John D. Rockefeller (1839-1937). His father of the same name, Winthrop Rockefeller Sr. (1912-1973), was governor of Arkansas between 1967 and 1971 . Other family members were also politically active at the federal level and in various states. The highest rank was reached by his uncle Nelson Rockefeller , who was Governor of New York from 1959 to 1973 and Vice President of the United States from 1974 to 1977 .

Rockefeller grew up alternately in the United States and Europe. He attended schools in New York State , England and Switzerland . At Texas Christian University , among other things, he studied how to run a ranch. He later worked in this field, among other things, but was also active in other industries such as the car trade. As a member of the Rockefeller family, he was inherently very wealthy. In 2005, Forbes Magazine estimated his net worth at $ 1.2 billion. He was ranked 283th among the richest people on earth. He donated his lieutenant governor salary of approximately $ 34,600 to charity.

Politically, Rockefeller joined the Republican Party . Between 1981 and 1995 he worked for the Arkansas State Police Department. He then became a member and chairman of the President's Council on Rural America . In 1994 he was Republican chairman of the state in Arkansas. After the resignation of Governor Jim Guy Tucker , Vice-Governor Mike Huckabee succeeded him in accordance with the state constitution. The vacant position of lieutenant governor fell to Winthrop Rockefeller after a special election. He held this office until his death on July 16, 2006. He died of a myeloproliferative neoplasia .

Winthrop Rockefeller was married twice and had a total of seven children.
