William Vollie Alexander

William Vollie "Bill" Alexander Jr. (born January 16, 1934 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party .

Alexander attended high school in Osceola until 1951 and then studied at the University of Arkansas . At Rhodes College , Memphis, he received his Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1957 . He graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 1960 with a law degree . From 1969 to 1993 Alexander was a member of the United States House of Representatives for the Democratic Party , where he represented the first congressional constituency of Arkansas . Most recently he was deputy whip for the Democrats. He had won the constituency against the Republican Guy Newcomb and emerged as the winner of most of the subsequent elections in the electoral district clearly defined by the Democrats, each with a large lead (share of the vote: 65%) over his opponents. After that, his party did not nominate him for another candidacy. Today Alexander lives in Osceola.
