Eleazar ben Arach
Eleazar ben Arach (also: Eleazar ben Arakh ) was a Jewish scholar of antiquity, worked around the year 80 and belonged to the so-called second generation of the Tannaites .
In the sayings of the fathers , too , sayings of him are handed down (II., 9).
He was one of the most important students and at the same time a highly valued favorite student of Rabban Jochanan b. Zakkai , especially in mysticism (bab. Chagiga 14 b).
After his death he did not go to Jawne like the other students , but founded his own school in Emmaus . At this point, however, he remained very lonely, so that, according to the Talmudic report (Bab. Shabbat 147 b), he forgot everything, ultimately even reading himself.
