Samuel Mendelsohn

Samuel Mendelsohn (born March 31, 1850 in Schillelen , Kovno Governorate , † September 30, 1922 in Wilmington, North Carolina ) was an American rabbi and Jewish scholar of Lithuanian origin.

Mendelsohn received his training at the Rabbinical College in Vilnius , at the Rabbinical School in Berlin and at Maimonides College in Philadelphia . From 1873 to 1876 he was a rabbi in Norfolk (Virginia) , then until the summer of 1922 in Wilmington (North Carolina). He was an employee of the Jewish Encyclopedia .

In 1879 he married Esther Jastrow, niece of the Jewish scholar Marcus Jastrow . Their son was Charles Jastrow Mendelsohn .
