Eleftherios Synadinos ( Greek Ελευθέριος Συναδινός , born July 6, 1955 in Argos Orestiko ) is a Greek former lieutenant general and politician of the Golden Dawn party . Since 2018 he has been a member of the Patriotic Radical Union, which he co-founded . He was a member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019 .

Life

Synadinos embarked on the officer career and rose to lieutenant general and deputy head of the general staff. After finishing his military career, he embarked on a political career.

In 2014, Synadinos was elected as a non-attached member of the European Parliament for the Golden Dawn . For the entire electoral term he was a member of the Committee on Budgets and in the delegation for the EU- Montenegro Parliamentary Stabilization and Association Committee . From the beginning of 2017 until the end of his term of office, Synadinos was also a member of the Development Committee . He was also a deputy member of the committees for culture and education and for civil liberties, justice and home affairs as well as the delegation in the EU-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee (until 2019: EU-Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia).

On March 9, 2016, he denigrated “the Turks” in the European Parliament, among other things as “stupid and dirty barbarians”. He said:

“As Ottoman scientists wrote: The Turks are spiritual barbarians, despising God, swindlers and filthy. The Turk is like the dog who plays the savage, but when he has to fight the enemy, he runs away. The only effective way to deal with the Turks is fist and determination. "

Because of these statements, he was immediately excluded from the sitting by the President of Parliament , Martin Schulz , as a disciplinary measure under Rule 165 of the European Parliament's Rules of Procedure . Synadinos only left parliament after Schulz instructed ushers to lead him out of parliament. Schulz explained that the disciplinary measure was a decision of principle because he recognized the systematic attempt in parliament to “make racism socially acceptable here”.
