Osterath electrical store
The Elektrothek Osterath is a technology museum for high voltage technology in Meerbusch - Osterath in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is located on the site of Amprion GmbH's Osterath substation . The museum is operated by the Elektrothek e. V.
history
In 1978, the RWE in Krefeld laid the foundation for the collection, which is considered unique in Germany. The museum was founded on the initiative of an RWE employee and opened in 1981. It is looked after by former employees of RWE, who also guide through the museum and the collection on the open space.
exhibition
The museum in the ripple control building has an area of 900 m²; the outdoor area is 2000 m². The more than 2000 exhibits include a control panel of a power station from 1921 and a mast for the first 110 kV Lauchhammer – Riesa line . Another exhibit is a control panel of the Marienbasilika in the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer , with which the lighting of the Christmas crib, the Eternal Light and a star was operated. Another panel from 1924 was in Meiderich in the coking plant of Thyssen . Historical household appliances, surge arresters, direct current generators and voltage converters are also on display. Other objects can be seen on the open-air site.
For security reasons, the visit is only possible with a guided tour.
