Elemér Gyetvai

Elemér Gyetvai (born July 12, 1927 in Kisterenye , † March 18, 1993 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian table tennis player and trainer. He finished second in the singles at the 1958 European Championships .

Career

From 1950 to 1957 Elemér Gyetvai took part in five world championships . He was world champion with the Hungarian team in 1952 . In 1953 and 1957 he won silver with the team, in 1954 he was fourth. He also reached the double semifinals in 1957 together with Ferenc Sidó .

The 1958 European Championship was successful . With the team he became European champion, in singles he won silver after losing the final against his compatriot Zoltán Berczik , in mixed with Lívia Mossóczy he won bronze.

In 1956 he was ranked eighth in the ITTF world rankings .

Elemér Gyetvai was Hungarian champion several times: 1955 with the men's team of the club Bp. Spartacus SK, 1960 with the club Vörös Meteor Egyetértés, 1956, 1957 and 1958 in singles and 1956 and 1957 in doubles.

In 1961 Elemér Gyetvai ended his active career. He went to Indonesia, where he worked as a trainer until 1962. He then became a state inspector for table tennis in Hungary.
