Elena Cassin

Elena Margherita Cassin (* 1909 in Cuneo ; † June 2011 in Paris ) was an Italian ancient orientalist .

Elena Cassin, born in 1909, studied religious history at the University of Rome and received her doctorate there in 1933. She then went to Paris and since then has mainly dealt with the legal and economic history of ancient Mesopotamia . She worked for the Revue d'Assyriologie and belongs to the Annales School . As Maître de recherche she was research officer at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS).

Together with Jean Bottéro and Jean Vercoutter , Cassin published volumes 2 to 4 of Fischer Weltgeschichte , which dealt with the ancient oriental world.
