Jean Bottéro

Jean Bottéro (born August 30, 1914 in Vallauris , † December 15, 2007 in Gif-sur-Yvette ) was a French ancient orientalist .

Jean Bottéro worked from 1947 to 1958 as a researcher at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS). In 1958 he became professor of ancient oriental history at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris . Bottéro has been part of the team that has been processing the royal cuneiform archives recovered in Mari since 1949 .

Together with Elena Cassin and Jean Vercoutter , Bottéro edited volumes 2 to 4 of Fischer Weltgeschichte , which dealt with the ancient oriental world.
